The Bangalore University (BU) is one of the most prestigious institutions in Bangalore University. Established in the year 1964, this public institution has been recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC) and is a part of Association of Indian University (AIU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). The university has world class infrastructure with all basic amenities and has also been accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ grade.
The University was initially a branch of the University of Mysore so as to include more courses for the higher studies in the metropolitan city of Bangalore, which eventually became independent universities. Later on two colleges, Central College (CC) and the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) formed the Bangalore University.
The campus is spread over in an area of 1100 acres and provides good facilities to the students and staff like Hostel, Health Centre, Cafeteria, Shopping Complex, Post Office, Swimming Pool, Sports Complex, Auditorium, and Bank.
The University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, certificate and diploma level courses. It has various departments offering degrees in Arts, Commerce, Science and Management.

Admission in the University happens on the basis of an academic score, every year the application forms released for undergraduate, post graduate and PhD, for undergraduate the application form releases in the third week of May and closes in the second week of June. The University releases its merit list in the fourth week of June. The classes start in July with an orientation program on the very first day of the college.
For postgraduate courses, the application form releases in the first week of July and ends in the last week of July. The merit list is put up either in the end week of July or first week of August. And, the classes start from the second week of August.
Lastly, for PhD courses, the application starts the second week of September and ends in the second week of October. The entrance exam is conducted in November.
The University recently (in the year 2010) has reserved one seat in the PG program for transgender.
The University's main logo says JNANAM VIGNANA SAHITHAM which symbolised higher and realised knowledge of an individual.
Bangalore University offers various courses at Postgraduate level like M.Arch, MBA, MCA, MA, etc. To be eligible, the aspirant must have completed graduation securing 40-50 per cent marks in aggregate of all the subjects at the Degree level (depending upon the course). Students have the option to submit the application form online. Once, the aspirants have applied and submitted their documents, PGAC prepares a Provisional Omnibus list and also a separate merit list category wise. After this the counselling process begins.

Master of Arts: Candidates need to have passed undergraduate level from any recognized university in any discipline. In most of the M.A. courses 40% aggregate of all the subjects and 50% marks in cognate subject in the qualifying university examinations is required. Graduates from other courses like B.Sc. and B.Com who’ve secured at least 55% marks in the degree course are also eligible

Candidates who have passed the three year B.Com./ B.B.M. degree examination from Bangalore University or any other University considered as equivalent having not less than 50% (45% for SC/ST/Category-I candidates) marks in the aggregate in Commerce subjects.
Candidates who have passed Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree Examination from Bangalore University or any other University in Commerce, Management, Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Engineering / Technology or equivalent having at least 50% (45% for SC/ST and category – I candidates) marks in the aggregate are eligible for admission.
Candidates having Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Commerce /Accounting/ Management/ Economics from Bangalore University or any other University and have secured at least 50% marks in the aggregate of all papers studied in the qualifying examinations are eligible.
Bangalore University Eligibility Criteria –Lateral Entry to 4th Year MMS/MBS Five Year Integrated Course
Candidates who have passed the B.Com/ B.B.M. Degree Examination of Bangalore University or any other University and has secured not less than 50% marks in aggregate in Commerce subjects in all the examinations of the B.Com. / BBM course are eligible.
Bangalore University Eligibility - Master of Law
Candidate wanting to take admission to LL.M. Degree under semester scheme (CBCS) shall appear for admission test and must have passed with not less than 50% marks (5% relaxation for SC/ST, Category-I and differently able candidates) in the aggregate of 3yrs/5yrs LL.B. examination conducted by B.U. or any other University recognized by UGC leading to LL.B. Degree.
Bangalore University offers various courses at undergraduate level. To be eligible, the aspirant must have completed two years Pre-University examination of Karnataka State or its equivalent.
Aspirants can get application form from the official website. The application forms are generally released in the 3rd week of May. Aspirants can apply through online and offline modes. The eligibility to take admission to various courses is determined by the principal before making admissions by examining the original academic documents relating to the qualifying examination of students in accordance with the University Regulations governing each course for which they seek admission.

The students who’ve passed their qualifying exam conducted by the recognized board/ statutory universities outside of Karnataka but within the country wanting to take admission to various courses will be admitted without Eligibility Certificates provided they satisfy the requirements of Bangalore University. However, such candidates have to pay INR 1,000/- towards the eligibility fee.
Furthermore, the Indian National students who’ve passed the qualifying exam of 10+2 conducted by the examining bodies of India like CBSE, ICSE, Govt. of Kerala, etc. outside India need not apply for issue of Eligibility Certificates. However, they would have to pay INR 2,000/- towards the Eligibility fee. Others would have to obtain Eligibility Certificates from the University before taking admission.
Foreign Nationals wanting to take admission in Bangalore University are advised to apply for eligibility certificates. They need to fill and application form, which will be sent to Principal along with necessary documents.
The students who’ve passed the qualifying examinations recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, equivalent to 10+2 examination in India are required to apply for eligibility certificates.
NOTE: Application without the necessary documents and also after the last date will be rejected.
Procedure for Seat Selection and Admission
The PGAC shall prepare the Provisional Omnibus List in a prescribed format and also a separate merit list (category-wise) as per the Government Order.
The PGAC shall notify the approved Omnibus merit List for each course and the provisional selection list before the counseling dates. The Rank List should follow the following Priority based on merit:
Bangalore University popularly known as BU is a public university located in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Established in 1886, the university is also accredited Grade ‘A’ by NAAC. It offers a wide array of specializations in Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), M Phil, PhD and diploma programmes. Students have option to choose from various courses the university has to offer like B.Sc., BMS, B.Tech, Hotel Management, LLB, MCA, MBA, B.Arch, foreign languages, etc.
The admission takes place through online and offline modes. The applications for most Undergraduate courses begin in the month of May, applications for Postgraduate courses begin in July and PhD in September.
Bangalore University grants admission to most undergraduate courses on a merit basis, for other courses like Law, the management conducts an entrance exam. For courses like B.Arch and B.E. courses, the university considers KCET. Students can take admission in postgraduate courses by appearing in PGCET. For doctorate courses, the aspirants have to qualify an entrance exam as well as an interview. Direct admission is given to correspondence courses (UG and PG level).
Reservation of seats under Bangalore University intake, Autonomous College, Hyderabad Karnataka and Other Universities within Karnataka quota is as per the Govt. order issued from time to time. If all the categories of reservation cannot be covered, the seats will be allotted in the order of preference specified in the table below, making sure equitable distribution.
