IIT Kanpur is an autonomous statutory body established under the Institutes of Technology Act as amendment made by The Institute of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963. All the IITs of our country are administered by a Council established by the Government of India. The Council is headed by the Minister for Human Resource Development of the Government of India. This council helps in the co ordination among these IITs. Board of Governors administers the activities in that particular IIT to which it belongs. The Board of Governors is headed by the chairman.The Institute now has its own sprawling residential campus about 2255 undergraduate and 1476 postgraduate students, 309 faculty and more than 900 supporting staff. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur carries out original research of significance and technology development at the cutting edge. It imparts training for students to make them competent, motivated engineers and scientists. The Institute not only celebrates freedom of thought, cultivates vision and encourages growth, but also inculcates human values and concern for the environment and the society.The campus has all the amenities for developing the personal, social and academic skills of the community.

IITK has well equipped with all the modern facilities.
Classroom
The courses are delivered from the E-Classroom set up at IIT Kanpur to the E-Classrooms at both the location via VSAT with full two way interactivity. The E-Classroom has three wall-mounted cameras with remote control, mixer/switcher and a video distributor.
Laboratory
Institute has well equipped labs with all modern facilities in all departments.
Library
P. K Kelkar Library (Formerly Central Library) of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur is an academic Library with a collection of more than 3,00,000 volumes and subscriptions to more than 1000 periodicals.
