Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) is one of the leading design institutes of India. SID aims to make creative designers, who have strong imagination, curiosity for learning new things and effective storytelling skills. SID is a constituent of Symbiosis International University (SIU). The Institute has strong advisory board, which imparts research, and practical advice to design academics, business and students. The objective of the institute is to impart an effective education, which is beneficial for all learners. Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) has an active placement cell. The cell of the institute works as a coordinator between industry and the students. The placement cell invites firms for the pre -placement activities in their campus and also for the final placement. The institute placed its students in firms like infosys, Autoline Industries Ltd, Cognizant Ltd, Whirlpool, Mudra Communications, etc.

Infrastructures

Institute imparts world class infrastructure amenities for its students. The Exquiste campus of the SID institute is extended in an area of more than 80,000sq.ft at Viman Nagar houses. The well architect building of the institute comprises studios, laboratories, workshops, IT infrastructure, rapid prototyping lab, well-equipped class rooms, library, exhibition areas, seminar hall, conference hall etc. The campus also has amphitheater, ultra-modern auditorium and academic plaza for various activities including design shows. The campus of the institute is fully connected with Wi-Fi.

Not the best but not the worst either

SID being an institute under Symbiosis International University, has been promoting international understanding through quality education which is the primary vision. The college does not constrict its student to only "design learning" but also interesting projects like study tours, craft documentation and much more. For instance, being in foundation year we experienced site sketching, gathering historical importance, collecting references etc, in the study tour which I feel was not only something new and thrilling to me but definitely to my batch mates as well. The exposure is unparalleled and gives opportunities to students to show their potential in whatever field/area they are passionate about. For instance again, I got to perform in many such cultural programs happening in the Institute throughout the year and got revered recognition which I'm quite proud about. We celebrate various festivals in college itself inculcating its importance among everyone. As much as everything is so good around here, there are certain shortcomings too. Sometimes we fail to get the required equipment in the college stationery itself or there is an absence of the technical support required. But what is actually important is that we get judicious alternatives too. Keeping aside all the drawbacks, the college environment is something to talk about because that is one of the prime things for a student to keep going. It is always so lively. The college is immensely decorated with installations and surreal paintings on the walls. It actually helps in mood upliftment on a boring day or works as an inspiration to some stuck design problems. It's a year that I've been in the college but it still feels that I haven't experienced the whole of it yet, I'll have to keep exploring.

Review of my college

The college is good with activities and events that actually enhance skills, specifically sketching skills, events such as Lakshya that is a 24-hour sketchethon is one of a kind. There are much more different kinds of fests. Also, the institute has a foundation year to introduce students to the basic design principles which are very helpful in every design that we as designers will create professionally. Though it may get tiring for students, at the end it's necessary.

Excellence is the number one key

Our college concentrates on excellence and students' improvement. SID has a very nice campus, consisting of an amphitheatre which is in the centre of the campus, two sports grounds, and an auditorium just after the entrance of the campus. Basic facilities like Corporate Bank, ATM, Xerox centre, and a stationery shop can be found on the campus.

A good place to start your professional life

College life is the dream life. There is a whole new kind of independence, fun, friends and experience associated with it. So when I got into SID, I had some basic expectations, and, I'll admit, some apprehensions as well. After all, growing up in a country which teaches you that IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, and of course the good DU colleges are supposedly the only places worth going makes you apprehensive about every other educational institution. SID did not meet my expectations, it exceeded them. The campus, though small, is clean and well maintained. We have decent classrooms and labs with good equipment. The course (at least for Foundation year) is well structured. College staff is very helpful. The faculty is mixed but hey, what's college life sans one antagonistic professor? Most surprisingly, discipline is maintained inside the campus so I officially quash all rumours that hint otherwise. The culture is pretty awesome here with the seniors being really friendly, great fests and everyone being hard working in general. There are ample opportunities everywhere no matter what you want to do, academic or extracurricular, you just have to grab them. Pune, of course, is a brilliant city for students. However, there are some drawbacks and room for improvement in many things. But nothing that'll hold you back if you're passionate about your field and life!

A brief look at how is the life of a Symbi student!

So foundation year, the year when we take the leap from being a school kid to college student. Entering Symbiosis with many great expectations given its reputation.But after the induction program is finished in the first week with everyone now isolating themselves to a limited people and swear to be friends for a lifetime, but little do they know it'll hardly last a semester.On the other hand, some kids who had been aspiring to be designers all their life are sitting in the class like a loaded gun, ready to fire, stacking faculty with doubts and trying to prove to everyone else in the class that they are superior.But the faculty will make it their personal goal to demotivate a student to that level that he would rather prefer working in a catacomb because it's less dark.So now after losing all inspiration, the kid is driven to do different things, bad things because now he knows there is no use of trying to do well in the first year and he just needs to pass, ends up getting a backlog.Anyways the kid would think that second year will be a fresh start for him because why not? After all, it's his specialisation now, but he can't fully concentrate because end semester foundation year backlog is catching up with him.This will keep happening and the faculty just doesn't pass people till they are on the verge of ATKT. So finally free of the past trying to catch up with him now he tries focusing on the real work.Now third year is where the real work begins ,where things get real and you know it's either a make or break year for you because this is what will define who you do internship with and you'll get an insight of what's to come in the fourth year and what you need to do to score a resplendent job.
