The SRM University (Sri Ramaswamy Memorial University), formerly SRM Institute of Science and Technology, is a deemed university in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College in Kattankulathur, under University of Madras. It has 7 campuses, 4 in Tamil Nadu—Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, Vadapalani, Tiruchchirappalli and others in NCR, Sonepat and Gangtok. The institute gained deemed status during the 2003-2004 academic year and was renamed SRM Institute of Science and Technology. It became SRM University in 2006, when it attained the status of a full-fledged university, under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. SRM University is one of the top ranking universities in India with over 55,000 students and more than 3600 faculty across all the campuses, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Engineering, Management, Medicine and Health sciences, and Science and Humanities.
The university is approved by the University Grants Commission and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). It has been given an overall A Grade by NAAC. Some programs in SRM University are accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The Ministry of HRD placed SRM University in Category A.
Located about 35 km away from the city of Chennai, this campus is situated on a 313-acre site overlooking Grand Southern Trunk Road (GST Road), NH-45. The main campus at Kattankulathur consists of a College of Engineering and Technology, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, College of Science and Humanities and a School of Management.
Kattankulathur Campus also houses the SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Center and the SRM Hotel. The SRM hospital can accommodate 1200 in-patients with 25 specializations in PG education in medical science..
The campus also accommodates the SRM Institute of Hotel Management, SRM Arts and Science College, Valliammai Engineering college (SRM Group) and Valliammai Polytechnic college.
In 2014 the university announced a plan to open a law school at the campus.

Transportation
The SRM group runs a fleet of buses for transporting students to and from the city and to other areas. There are two vans and several cars too. Public transport buses and trains also ply to points near the campuses.

Students of SRM have access to medical facilities at various places, apart from a 24-hour dispensary which has been set up on campus with a doctor on call. The SRM Hospital at West Mambalam has facilities for several diagnostic procedures such as ECG, X-Ray and laboratory investigation.
Health insurance cover for all students is one of the additional services under active consideration.
Shopping
A mini supermarket functions within the campus, to supply necessities. The canteen also offers a range of snacks and beverages.
Banking
Nationalized banks run extension counters at the Kattankulathur and Ramapuram premises, making it convenient for students and staff to transact business at the campus itself.

College is good. It is located in Kancheepuram district. It is surrounded by lakes. The college campus is beautiful. The hostels are clean and quite spacious. The faculty is supportive and excellent in their jobs. Overall, the college is good and you will enter a diiferent world.
