Private University Estd. 1952 NIRF #1 (Medical) 2024The Institute of Fashion Technology Kerala is established by the Govt. of Kerala in technical collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. The institute has been set up under the aegis of Centre for Continuing Education Kerala, with the intention of developing professionals for talking up leadership positions in fashion business in the emerging global scenrio.
The Fashion industry in India is mainly driven by growing exposure of domestic designers at International forums, but growth is also supported by another important factor, focused fashion education courses for the emerging designers. Today fashion industry, like many other global industries engage special designing techniques, production methods, marketing & IT tools, it demands specially trained peoples for these. Courses designed and delivered at IFTK, located at the beautiful surroundings of Vellimon, Kundara, Kollam District, Kerala, fulfills these demands through its professionally managed campus. Institute of Fashion Technology Kerala is the first of its kind in Kerala established by the Government of Kerala. The Institute aims at providing a common platform for fashion education, research and training.
Apart from providing one of the basic necessities of life, the textile and clothing industry also plays a pivotal role through its contribution to industrial output, employment generation, and the export earnings of the country. Currently, it contributes about 14 percent to industrial production, 4 per cent to the GDP, and 13.50 percent to the country's export earnings. It provides direct employment to over 35 million people, which includes a substantial number of SC/ST, and women. The Textiles sector is the second largest provider of employment after agriculture. Thus, the growth and all round development of this industry has a direct bearing on the improvement of the economy of the nation.

Placement
The Campus Placement Cell facilitates students to interact with prospective employers to enable them to start their careers in challenging positions. Leading national and international apparel companies shall be contacted for campus placement.
The main endeavor of Placement Services Cell, of IFTK is to get students placed in reputed apparel, textile and retail multinational companies. All registered students with the Placement Services Cell will be entitled to placement assistance, counseling for employment and even self employment. The Placement Services Cell assures full support to the visiting companies at every stage of the placement process by making IFTK infrastructure available to them. The Placement Services Cell will act as an interface between the industry and the students and will primarily enable the students to select from their career options and also facilitate the selection process of all the companies as per their requirement. The Placement Services Coordinator will liaison with corporate organizations to provide suitable jobs for the candidates completing their studies from IFTK. The Placement Services Cell also conducts Placement Week, seminars and workshops by industry experts to enable the students of IFTK to become successful professionals.
IFTK is happy to share the news of the placement of all its students of 2010 Batch (Diploma in Fashion Design) in the Placement Week organized last year. Around 15 companies from the field of fashion, Apparel & Textile, made their valuable presence in the IFTK campus as part of the placement week. The companies followed a strict disciplined & challenging screening processes in order to select the very best. The placement services coordinator shall train and prepare the students in this regard for optimum results during the screening processes in the placement week. Our students have been placed in Globus Stores, Gokaldas Exports, Karle International, Madura Fashion and Life Style, Jockey, FabIndia to name a few.
Infrastructures
The Institute of Fashion Technology Kerala aims at establishing the benchmark for the quality of professionals that go into the fashion industry. The Institute provides comprehensive and state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment to impart both practical and theoretical training. The facilities and services offered to the students allow them the freedom to experiment with and generate creative ideas.
The classrooms are equipped with audio-visual equipment like LCD, Slide Projector,Television, etc. The Institute invests in the latest equipment to acquaint students with the latest manufacturing technology. The laboratories are equipped with requisite machinery for garment construction, pattern making, etc.
IFTK realises the significance of the role of Information Technology in modern technical education. The IT infrastructure provided to support academics in IFTK is of international standard. The Institute also understands the value of information in fashion education and has developed Well-stocked Resource materials.
Resource Centre
In the 21st century, Information is the most important resource, and knowledge management is the most crucial function in an organisation. The Resource Centre at IFTK provides the necessary infrastructure to collate and disseminate this critical input. Its integrated collection of print, visual and creative material resources is systematically documented source of information available for study of international and contemporary Indian fashion.
Resource Centre Collections
- The print collections include books and periodicals pertaining to fashion studies and related disciplines.
- Resource centre subscribes to leading international forecast services and fashion and textile journals.
- The audio visual materials in CDs, DVDs, slides and videos are primarily used as teaching aids. The materials pertain to history of costumes, history of art, fashion illustrations etc., lessons on garment manufacturing and design collections.
- The Resource Centre also has collection of Fashion Accessories Finding Collection containing all the materials required to complete a garment.
Hostel
IFTK intends to provide residential accommodation for girls & boys. Though IFTK presently does not have campus hostel facilities, sufficient residential accommodation is being arranged near the institute. IFTK hostels are run on a no profit/no loss basis.All the hostel premises are provided with round the clock professional security and hostelwarden.
Recreation facilities like T.V., magazines, some indoor games are also available at the hostels.
Hostel/bus fee once paid are normally not refundable. In the event of a student, having paid his/her hostel/bus fee, opts out from these facilities, he/she will normally be refunded his/her security deposit on this account and rest of the payment shall stand forfeited.
Canteen
The canteen on the campus provides hygienic and fresh food at reasonable rates. The variety of foodstuffs available and a friendly atmosphere make the cafeteria ideal for students to relax and interact with their peers.
