The Indian Institute of Material Management was established in 1975 by merging three professional associations. The merged body was called Indian Association of Material Management (IAMM), which was later changed to Indian Institute of Material Management (IIMM). The merger gave birth to an institution that in its current form is the only professionally recognized body for material management in India.
