Department of Sociology is a part of Gauhati University. The discipline has been designed, to begin with, as a two-year M.A. Degree Programme in a self-financing mode. The vision of this Programme is to see the emergence of a Department of Sociology that would promote research on various issues pertaining to the Northeast. The initial initiative has met with encouragement from different sections of the society: students, civil societies, development agencies etc.
