Asutosh College, for a century has been a cardinal institute in West Bengal that has been imparting quality education to its students to prepare them to be responsible and serviceable members of the society. The college is affiliated under the University of Calcutta and has a rich heritage that contributes to its own culture. The College was built up in the year 1916 under the pioneer leadership of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, the famous mathematician, educationist and the then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta. After the demise of the great leader, in 1924, the college was renamed after him as a tribute to his legacy and his visionary ideas that still shape the students at The Asutosh College.

Placement

The mail id for placement cell is: placement@asutoshcollege.in The College has a Job Placement Cell that organizes campus interviews to facilitate job proposals for the final year students. Dr. Abhik Kundu, Dr. Dhiman Dutta and Smt. Rupa Bhattacharya steer this placement cell. Its goal is to provide employment opportunities to every willing student on completion his/her acadamic cariculum. Significant progress has been made in this regard. Reputed Indian and Multinational companies have visited the campus and selected a large number of students for recruitment and have been placed as Program-Trainees, Process-Executives etc.

Infrastructures

The college has a well constructed building with modern infrastructure and all technological and manual facilities. The Asutosh Memorial Hall, which is housed in the main building, is used for numerous cultural and academic functions.The hall is equipped with high-end audio and lighting equipment. The hall with balcony can accommodate one thousand viewers at a time. The college has its own well equipped Seminar Hall located in its Annexe building where lecturers and academic workshops are held regularly. The College also has a Gymnasium as well.

Asutosh College is the only college in South Kolkata to facilitate its students with hostel facilities. It is also one of the only two colleges to have a tent and ground at Kolkata Maidan.

NSS :

After the lapse of more than a decade, the college has reactivated its National Social Service (NSS) Unit. This will help integrate college education with the needs of its social environment.

The College has a National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit affiliated to 20 Bengal Battalion.The process of recruitment of new cadets begins just after admissions and is concluded by August.Interested students may approach the faculty of the Department of English, main staff room.

The College has well furnished classrooms with all modern facilities and comfortable seats.


Laboratory

The college has well-equipped computer lab with broadband Internet connectivity and a host of other required software. There are more than 100 modern computers in the labs that facilitate in learning IT and also undertake research and data processing.


Library

The college has a well-stocked library with more than 90,000 volumes, and reading room facilities. The Reading room has a capacity to accommodate more than a hundred readers at a time.

On of the Oldest and Good Colleges around the Town

The college is good for studies. Despite having a union, it does not hamper to studies in general. The infrastructure of the college is good to do with. With one of the best computer science and humanities department in Kolkata and of CU, this college is definitely recommended to all.

Bad administration of the college

The college is regulated by unions more than the Principal and other administration. Rest of the things are good. The college infrastructure is good. Here attendance of the student is not very important. I would say average students take admission here. The college faculty is upto the mark.

Best college in Kolkata University

College management is excellent and even though it's a government college, the office staff are excellent and quite efficient in their works. The management is very reliable and listens to all the demands of the students are they make sure that they are met very soon. The college is simply amazing and a great option for higher studies.
