YMCA University of Science & Technology Indulges into Community Work

A team of YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad comprising of students and a few faculty members adopted the idea to work in five villages, namely, Sahrawak, Tilori Khaddar, Tejpur Kalan, Rajpur and Alipur Sikargah to change them into model villages under the Swachch Bharat Mission.

The main objective of this mission is to devise an action plan for the upliftment of the people living in these villages and to educate them on further potential areas on which they can work in order to make life comfortable for themselves and the people around them.

The Registrar of the University, Dr. Tilak Raj, along with his team, discussed their mission and interacted with the village community to gather information about the prevailing concerns and key problems of the village. The output of this interaction led to the conclusion that Inappropriate Health & Hygiene and Waste Disposal System are the most significant troubles of these villages. The enthusiastic response from the villagers and their keen interest in dealing with the issues was the highlight of the visit. YMCAUST assured complete cooperation in devising, implementing and evaluating the action plan.

On the occasion, the villagers were informed of the provisions that are being made to impart computer training to the youth and the vision to set up a computer lab in the Government Schools of the villages.

Other issues that will be looked into include setting up of banks, setting up of dispensaries and hospitals in the village. Attention will also be given to start a cleanliness campaign in the villages.

Dr. Renuka Gupta, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, YMCAUST, also delivered a a lecture on waste disposal and personal hygiene, its importance and significance, and other environmental issues at the government school in Sehrawak.
