While the aim of XIMB is to create managers who view business growth in the context of social development, its pool of future leaders are equally adept at having fun at the weekend JLTs or the Just Like That parties, eating out in the evenings at the local food joint Sudupsadap (the sound made while eating), or designing business simulation games such as Kurukshetra or Skill City for their annual festival called Expressions.

“Most institutes outsource simulation games but we design them here after classes. During the three-day festival, which we all look forward to in November, business schools and even corporates compete at simulation games such as Kurukshetra and Skill City,” says Abhilasha, a student.

The institute also hosts a rock show called Decibels during the festival. This year 61 bands participated from across the country.

XIMB is located in a 20 acre campus in the institutional area of Bhubaneswar. The campus has modern classroom facilities, student hostels, studio apartments, gym, a sports club and a multi-purpose auditorium. The institute owes its origin to a social contract between the Government of Orissa and the Orissa Jesuit Society in 1987. It is managed by a board of governors, consisting of representatives of government of India, government of Orissa, the Jesuit Society, and eminent industrialists and educationists.

A second campus will come up at Pipli, which has an area of 35 acres for which Rs.70 crore has been earmarked.

MB’s entrepreneurship cell Manjee (seed in Oriya) was incubated on campus recently. Yet another innovative initiative is that of the community enterprise, Nava Jyoti, that is engaged in providing sustainability to small/marginal farmers in rural Odisha. The institute also sends students for a month-long rural living and learning experience (RRLE), to different parts of the country under the guidance of recognised civil society organisations.

About Rs.20 lakh is available as scholarship money for students, on a need-cum-merit basis, says the director.

For the PGDM-RM batch of 2010-12, 100% placements was achieved with the Highest Domestic Salary (HDS) of 9.5 lakh per annum.

Though the college has everything that students could ask for, they wish there was a swimming pool and perhaps a dance room with walls covered with mirrors.
