Word of the Day ~ Intuition

Remember that moment when, by sheer instinct, you did not take the bait and refrained from bunking school alongside your “So called” besties? The reason? Just because you felt queasy doing so. And your hunch was correct all along - someone did notice your friends outside and reported it to your Principal; thus resulting in a chaotic meeting with the respective parents.

This is what is called instinct, inner feeling or “Intuition”. Skipping across various other instances, I wish to bring back some old memories – when you had a MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) in front of you; ignorant of the answer, you just were thinking of taking a guess but suddenly you feel that Option A is the correct answer. And imagine when your intuition pays off. Yeah, intuition it is. Many might call it a “Guess” but I call it intuition. Psychologically, according to what I have heard, when you harp on a certain thing, dead sure that you are in the right; your sub conscious memory plays an eminent role!

So, tweaking about the format a bit, shall we proceed to do the honours?

Word of the Day:     Intuition

Meaning:  Sheer Instinct, hunch, inkling or feeling

Usage:   As far as I have come across this word, it is used in the form of a noun like – “I had an intuition that Mr Roberts was a murderer and it was proved to be true.”

As I said, I will be tweaking the format a bit to suit the word of the day. So, watch out!

Why is it so interesting?

I once remember reading in one of Agatha Christie’s novel when Mrs Adriane Oliver had a hunch that the Doctor in that small village had done something wrong. And in the end she was proved to be correct; the doctor having being in shady deals. When asked how she could guess this, she proudly says, “Woman’s Institution”.

That is what makes the word special. Anyone makes a hunch or a guess isn’t simple intuition. Intuition is when you make a guess and you have something to back it, whenever you realise it or not!
