The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the various Civil Services of the Government of India, including IAS, IFS, IPS, among others.
The exam has two stages – First is the Preliminary exam, consisting of two objective-type papers (General Studies and Aptitude Test).
Second is the Main exam, consisting of 9 papers of conventional (essay) type followed by the Personality Test (Interview) round.
Appearing for the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) or Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014 tomorrow?
Important instructions to keep in mind before you sit for the exam:
1. Read the ‘important instructions’ that have been issued along-with your e-Admit Cards, carefully.
2. Do not bring any of the banned items such as Mobile Phones, Calculators, IT gadgets and any other communication device such as Bluetooth etc.
3. Do not bring any other incendiary items inside the examination premises.
Please Note: Any violation of the above instructions shall cause disciplinary action including ban from future examinations.
In addition, do not to bring any valuable/costly items and bags to the examination halls.
Important Note: All the Visually Impaired Category candidates appearing in the CSAT or Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2014 will be allowed an extra time of 40 minutes for Paper-I and also an extra time of 40 minutes for Paper-II.

a) Duration of both Paper-I and Paper-II of the Civil Serivices Prelims 2014 will be of two hours each.
b) Following the agitation over English Language Comprehension section, the government has ordered that the questions in ‘English Language’ section of CSAT Paper-II shall not be evaluated for gradation or merit. Therefore, the candidates appearing for the exam are advised not to attempt these questions as Hindi translation for them has not been given.
c) This means that the CSAT exam will have two papers: Paper-I which will be of 200 marks and Paper II which will be of 200 marks minus the marks allocated to the ‘English Language’ section questions.
d) Final merit list of the candidates qualifying the Civil Services (Main) Written Examination will be drawn on the basis of the aggregate marks scored in Paper-I and Paper-II.
