Universities are not Machines to Produce Degrees: Prakash Javedkar

The Union Human Resource Development Minister, Prakash Javedkar, has stressed on the working of various universities. According to him, universities are not machines to produce degrees, but a source of quality education. While addressing a speech at the launch of first academic session of the new Mahatma Gandhi Central University in Motihari, he said that the need of the hour is to encourage more research work in universities.
Prakash Javedkar stated that the union government is promoting education to eradicate poverty. He stressed upon the slogan of the Centre, ‘Sabko Shiksha, Achchi Shiksha.

Union Agriculture Minister and local MP Radha Mohan Singh and Minister of State for HRD Upendra Kushwaha were present on the occasion. At least 395 students have already enrolled themselves in various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the new university. The new university will start its academic session from Zilla School premises until it shifts to its building on the 300 acres of land allocated to it.

More Initiatives by the Union Ministry

Recently, Javedkar outlined initiatives to bring ‘mobilized education for all’. Under the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), at least 2000 new courses were to be added. Experts will be brought in to give lectures, materials will accessible, exams conducted and certifications will be handed out. There are many areas, which do not have an access to internet; however, the ministry had a meeting with dish and cable operators who have agreed to transmit the content for students through TVs. The ministry is ensuring education and the execution of these initiatives has already started. With these steps, India does hope of getting rid of poverty, unemployment and illiteracy.
