One of my absolute favourite idiosyncrasies about Mumbai University (MU)'s Bachelors of Mass Media (BMM) course, one of the few undergraduate media courses in the country, is its affinity and almost paramount conduciveness for absorption of 'media aspirants' of inconceivably versatile schools of thought and talents.
If you happen to come across a most bizarre assortment of college students anywhere in Bombay that do not quite fit into your regular cookie cutter mould ideal of college goers, rest assured they're BMM students. Hipsters, geeks, artists, athletes, pseudo – intellectuals, drama queens (And kings, mind you), scribes, musicians, photographers, networkers, dancers, Emcees. All find a place to call a BMM classroom home - a place where this diversity is not just embraced, but celebrated. After a year of being enrolled in the course, and having spent said time interacting with and observing 'specimens' belonging to Sophia College's BMM department; I conclude that the most fascinating attribute of the course is its ability to seamlessly blend in 60 young minds, all with different aspirations and expectations from the course, into a single focused and rigorous professional entity.
Every BMM class will have a sprinkling of aspiring journalists, filmmakers, advertising copywriters, musicians, photographers, Public Relations (PR) executives, writers, anchors, poets, radio professionals, academicians, actors, event managers, fashionistas etc. – to name a few of the assorted career choices made by BMM students.
