TEDx event organised by students of H.R. College of Commerce and Economics on 7th February, 2015

TEDxHRCollege is an independently organised TED event. It brings to the fore a stage where Live Speakers and TED Talks combine to spark deep discussion and connections brought to us by The BSE Institute.

The event commenced with a short address by the Dean of H.R. College, Dr. Mrs. Indu Shahani.

The stage saw inspiring Talks by 12 great Speakers the likes of Krishna Pujari, Ajeet Khurana, Benaisha Kharas, Mehrab Irani, Preeti Vangani and many more! The musical stylings of the acapella group Raaga Trippin and comical tasters by Improv Comedy Mumbai gave the event a unique flavour of entertainment.

The Talk “Dharavi | A 1.2 Billion Dollar Slum” by Krishna Pujari was an eye opener. Most people are completely against a topic such as slum-tourism and the rest are just indifferent. The organisers provided a platform to show the real idea behind it and to change people’s views on it. The Talk definitely changed each person’s perception on slum tourism in that hall. Dharavi is not waiting for others to start industries there or give them jobs, they are doing it for themselves and today the ‘slum’ has a turnover which is the envy of many companies!

Ajeet Khurana had probably the best combination of humour and knowledge provided in a short yet impactful Talk. Mr. Khurana spoke about the important yet often misunderstood roles of entrepreneurs, mentors and investors in our economy.

Mehrab Irani, GM at Tata Investments, gave an insight into a few of his “10 Commandments to Financial Freedom” from the point of view of a college student. Words to live by for all students, ‘don’t blindly run after jobs or money, think and make your choice wisely’

The event ended on a very emotional note with poet Preeti Vangani talking about and reciting her latest piece “Validity”. Without giving much away, it made each woman in the room think twice and left every man in the room confounded.
