Teachers on poll duty 2014, Parents fear poor paper evaluation

This is the time when students & parents cross their fingers & hold their breath for the annual examination results. However, this year parents are concern with the quality of checking papers by the teachers due to the hectic poll work. On 24 April, the 16th Lok Sabha polls were held in the city clashed with the exam evaluation. Parents are worried that distress teachers may wind up correcting the paper without proper evaluation.

According to Ravi D (parent), who is waiting for two sets of result, one of his son studying in Class 5 at St Xavier's School, Bhandup, and another son who has given 10^th class board exam says that teachers will hardly get few days to correct paper & compile results. If the evaluation work has been done in a hurry then there will be high possibilities of making mistakes. He also mentioned that parents are more concern about the school results more than the board exam result because board exam result later can be reevaluated on request but there is no such recourse for school exams. The aided school teachers are working eight to nine hours a day so that they can declare the results on time. As per the Academicians, nonstop work without any break will distress teachers. 

Teachers should get more time for the evaluation work, as they are the one who builds student’s career. Even a minor mistake committed by teachers can cost students a lot. As per Arundhati Chavan, United Forum Parent Teacher Association said that teachers only go through the number of pages and not examine the content closely. Many parents came with the suggestion that schools should push ahead the exam result so that teachers can get enough time for the correction before declaring the results.  Alka Nadkarni a parent who’s kids studying in Chempur in an aided school said that "There is no point in hurriedly declaring results. I would rather that my daughter's school issues results late rather than those riddled with errors,"

According to Anjana Prakash, who is the principal of Hansraj Morarji Public School (Andheri), postponing the dates of the results in not a solution.  Dates of results are announced at the start of the academic year and printed in school calendars. If the results date will be changed, it would be very much inconvenient for parents and teachers as well. Those teachers who are busy with evaluation for board exams are facing same dilemma. Teachers have to wrap-up the evaluation process quickly so that the state board can declare results before June 5.
