6 Tamil Nadu Colleges Bag ‘A’ grade by NAAC

Whether you say it educational development of the country or a state’s strive to be the best, but this is true that six colleges of Tamil Nadu received ‘A’ grade accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

NAAC, which is an autonomous body to accredit institutions of higher education in India under UGC funding, recently did an assessment of 330 educational institutions under its new grading system having eight categories A++, A+, A, B++, B+, B, C, and D.

Post assessment, an official report was published where six of 23 colleges of Tamil Nadu have received ‘A’ grade, whereas only one college of Kerala (St Joseph’s College in Devagiri, Kozhikode) got the top ‘A++’ grade based on their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score.

The six colleges receiving ‘A’ grade are:

• Gandhigram Rural Institute (Deemed University) in Dindigul
• Sri Bhashir College of Education in Pudukkottai
• Women’s Christian College in Nagercoil
• Chikkaiah Naicker College in Erode
• P A College of Engineering and Technology in Pollachi
• Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (Deemed University) in Chennai

The recent NAAC assessment was carried out by the NAAC Standing Committee headed by its Director D P Singh. Out of all the 330 institutes that were assessed on the basis of CGPA, only one college received A++ grade, seven got A+ grade, while 81 managed to bag A grade. This indicates 55 colleges were graded B++, 64 B+, 89 B and 33 C.
