Spare a thought!!!

Oh come on! Let’s pat ourselves for the surge in the literacy rate from 12% at the time of independence to the current 74.04%. But the basis on which it is calculated makes a true patriots’ head, down. There is nothing much to wonder if you get to encounter a government school, standard 9 kid who stumbles for your simple single digit addition question in math. As rightly said by Mr. Banu Pratap Mehta,“Our politicians have confused university buildings with building universities”. The government focuses on getting children to schools by offering a lot of freebies but what about the standard of education delivered there? Journalists and teachers are more powerful in terms of bringing a change in the society. But how many teachers realise this fact, and take their duty with utmost sincerity and pride?

The concept of entrance exams for having education in an institution of good reputation always puzzles me. Don’t you think this inequality should be bridged? If, technology can make Facebook free and make it readily accessible,  why not the works of intellectuals? Why not the lectures delivered by great professors be made accessible to a girl in the remotest part of India, if she is passionate about and interested in knowing that?

All these prove our failure of reforms; this is a topic which has to be discussed under the head good governance. So let’s pay attention to that little later. What the so-called well educated people who got graduated from schools of international standard do?

It’s shocking to know that Charles Allen Thomas, noted American chemist and business man, who was later made the president of Harvard University was an important figure in the Manhattan project. Manhattan project is the first research and development project that produced the first atomic bombs during World War II. I think, I need not explain much about the achievements of this accomplishment!

Let’s focus on few national examples to get a better clarity about the concept. What change the Harvard graduates        Mr. Kapil Sibal and Mr. P. Chidambaram have brought? Justifying 2G scam? And successful establishment of Vasan eye care? More interesting, Cambridge graduate Honourable Rahul Gandhi  has accomplished? Let’s not take Varun of London school of economics for the time being.

Yeah, like you I also put my jaws down while reading through the profile of Dr. Manmohan Singh, the cutest silent spectator of our country. Why dint his education give him the courage to stand against the corrupt?

With the little education which I have attained so far, I perceived education to be a great gift, which opens a lot of choices to an individual, simultaneously giving the ability and courage to choose the right one, when the individual has absolute freedom and power. So don’t you think there is some serious fault in the way in which the education is carried? Because in a society, a poor illiterate man is not as harmful as a well-educated rich technocrat. I will understand the reality when I educate myself more I guess!

I recently read an article which said that many schools fail to comply with the standards set under RTE. If even the education institutes fail to comply with the rules, what kind of education do you think that they can impart and what kind of citizens they can build?

The educational institutes make the people literate but doesn’t actually educate them. The institutes which claim themselves to be the cradles of leadership, fail to maintain the souls of the individual intact, fails to build humanness, fails to instil a sense of ownership and belongingness towards the society. Can accuse more but want to stop here, because it’s the easiest thing to do.

Let me not pen down  more suggestions to change the system and add a new member to the world of books!!
