SOL, Delhi University to start admission process from June 17 2014

Delhi University has finally come out with admission dates for the School of Open Learning. The school, which enables students to complete their education via distance learning, will start the sale of forms from June 17 on its website. Offline forms will, however, go on sale from June 25.

SOL was supposed to start its admission process from May 27 this year but objection from the University Grants Commission had made them postpone the process. The admission notice regarding the admission process was approved by the university on Wednesday evening. The admission process will now continue till September 15, 2014 with payment of late fee. Without late fee, the last date for application is August 21. Students will be allowed to change their course and subject only once in their first year till October 31, 2014.

The school offers BA Programme and BCom programmes along with honours courses in English, political science and BCom. All details regarding the fee, eligibility and final dates can be accessed on the SOL website.

The primary reason for the delay was the UGC’s objection against the university’s decision to run two kinds of undergraduate programmes. While regular colleges function in the four-year mode, the SOL is still functioning in the three-year mode.

Each year, a large number of aspirants apply for admission in SOL. Most of the applicants either want to work while they complete their education or are not able to get admission in a regular college.

“I got 63% and I doubt I will get through any DU college. Moreover there is no point of pursuing graduation from a regular college when I can easily do it with correspondence along with a job,” said Pooja Yadav, who is waiting for the forms.
