The Shakespearean psychology

‘What’s in a name?’ Shakespeare said.‘ A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet’

Clearly he never encountered a Dilliwalla in his life time. Had he had the wonderful opportunity, he would know just how mistaken he was.

The frequency with which we throw around ‘ Tu jaanta hai mai kaun hoon?’ would certainly make him run for cover.

There is a reason for my sudden interest in Shakespeare’s reaction to a modern Delhite. Firstly I am considering psychology as a career prospect. And there is a certain charm in the elitist mindset of the average resident of the national capital, which makes me want to phsyco analyze it.

 Everyone knows someone important here. Chances are that you randomly throw a stone and it will hit a minister’s son. Show me one person who has never seen someone get away with jumping a red-light on account of being acquainted (however faintly) to an important person, and I’ll show you a liar.

It figures though, since we do have a lot if important offices situated around here.

Ironically even though I am writing about this, I seem to be the only person in all of Delhi who does not know someone important. (Fortunately, I don’t drive).

And perhaps this unfortunate truth is what got me interested in this analysis. I do believe I have potential in this field, either as the expert analyzer or as the subject at least!

Secondly, the look I imagined Shakespeare to wear on meeting us loud, brash but dil-waale dilliwaalas had me chortling and simply worth sharing.
