Time: 7.30
I woke up, petrified. My college days had started and it was the third day. I was supposed to get up at 6; I had to get ready, have my breakfast and rush, it takes me about an hour to reach the college! My first lecture was at 9.30. By simple calculations, getting ready is 1 hour, breakfast with newspaper is half an hour and the travel 1 hour; thus totalling 2.5 hours. Not to mention the early morning tasks including some role playing, writing a part of a story and reading a book! So, when I got up at 7.30, I was near flailing in fright! I couldn’t even see a flicker of hope of reaching the college on time!
Time: 8.00
Miraculously, I was ready and having breakfast. I skimmed through the newspaper and in record 10 minutes I had got out of the house. Just 90 minutes left. Frustratingly, there was no Auto Rickshaw available. Having walked for around 10 minutes, I finally got to see one. After some haggling, I got onto it and reached the Metro Station at 8.30. Just 1 hour left! My heart beats doubled!
Time: 8.45
Just two stations away! In three minutes, I was smiling. Just one station away! I would be on time, no need to worry. Suddenly, a jerk and a screeching sound! The Metro had stopped! I didn’t even notice much, it was a usual occurrence which was solved in a minute or two. Two minutes grew into five and then into seven. Then the announcement came – ‘It would take some more minutes to reach the station. We apologise for the inconvenience cause’ (My memory fails me on the exact sentence). This was again repeated in Hindi as well. I panicked; lest I was stuck in this horrible train for long. Thankfully, it moved again in 10 minutes; though I did have a small panic attack by then.
Time: 9.15
Just 15 minutes left for my lecture to begin. 15 precious minutes. Boarding another rickshaw, I urged him to go faster and faster. In 13 minutes, he left me at my college gates. The gatekeeper asked for the Fee Slip, I fumbled in my wallet. Oh No! The fee slip was missing! I was flabbergasted. Suddenly, my fingers ruffled against a papery surface and I took out the slip. The time was 9.28. I ran inside, brushing against many students, tripping down once and pushing aside the dustbin, which fell with a clatter. Stopping outside my classroom, Room Number 41, I pushed the door wide open!
And..........................
The Room was empty! No one had yet arrived. Stunned, I stepped inside, heaving heavily with the exertion. Another minute or so, some more students came in.
DISCLAIMER : This is just a fictional story, I am quite punctual in RL(Real life) and haven’t been late to any class yet.
