binjaitoto Review Curriculum Every 3 years: UGC to Universities
  • Huda colony, building No. 1094 , sec 46, Gurugram

All registered universities will now have to review their curriculum every three years, as per the new UGC guidelines. This suggestion has come in from the UGC to create more employable candidates and increase the employability statistics. This move will lead to universities changing their existing curriculum.

A meeting was held regarding this move, and it was convened by the Prime Minister in the presence of the secretaries of education and social development. The decision was then taken by the UGC and communicated to all the VS’s of the related universities of the country via a notice.

The notice stated that the main focus needs to be put on the current and prospective demand of skills that will make the university and college students more employable. This new order is to be necessarily followed by all the affiliated universities. The notice also suggested a revision and review of the current curriculum and changes in the interdisciplinary programmes.

The move is aimed at filling the gaps between the jobs in the market and the skill sets of students.

Universities have been asked to make this matter a top priority and act on it immediately. UGC Secretary Jaspal S. Snadhu said in his letter to the universities that this move needs to be made a priority so that all programme curriculum can be revised and adopted with immediate and quick effect.

This move has been welcomed and appreciated by the student organisations as well. They have raised concerns, however, regarding the faculty training skills, which are not up to the mark right now. A B.Com student from a Bengaluru College expressed her concern saying that, although the syllabus is changed quite often but the teaching methods remain the same and some of the teaching methods are very old fashioned and not up to the industry standards.

Ravinandan B.B., the State Vice President of All India Democratic Students’ Organisation, expressed that the move should be executed in talks with the universities and UGC shouldn’t push any changes.  He further stated that the move is surely going to play in favour of the students and keep them in demand with the market demands.
