Result and Realisation

The IIT Advanced results came out yesterday. Thousands of kids were glued to their computer screens, their hearts in their mouths, as they waited for the result to load.

The answer key was released a long time back so all aspirants were aware of how much they would be scoring, yet the excitement never abated. Everyone was waiting patiently and rather anxiously for the official result- the piece of information that would make them aware of where they stood in comparison to India’s best scientific minds.

And so when the time finally came it was a momentous occasion. Some danced with joy as they accessed their result, others sat disappointed in their rooms and still others heaved a sigh of relief as they realized that the back breaking turmoil (see very hard physics problems) that had characterized their final years in school had finally come to an end.

Where do I stand? Well, I did alright as per my expectations and I already knew that I was not going to be scoring enough to get the branch of my choice, so the result wasn’t entirely heart-wreaking though it still stung. Funny that it did though, since I have come a long way since writing that entrance exam about a month back. I scored an internship with click4college and have started volunteering at a children’s shelter. All of which has made me realize that I want to work with the people and give back to the community.

Everyone does that in their own little way, doctors treat people, lawyers fight for our rights, actors preserve our sanity by warding away boredom and engineers create technology that improves the lives of millions. I don’t know where I fall in the larger scheme of things, but I feel I want to be on the ground interacting with people and journalism certainly offers me that. But I have always dreamt of being a coder.

So, here I am about a month and a half from starting college, still dazed by the sheer number of cool career options out there. It is a tough fight between DU and DTU. I sure do hope I can make up my mind soon.
