PhD Admissions 2017 Begin at IIT Madras

Applications are invited from students seeking admission in Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at IIT Madras for academic session starting in 2022.

Aspirants are recommended to start applying for PhD admission at IIT Madras as late submission will not be considered.The last date to submit PhD application at IIT Madras is October 24, 2022.

IIT Madras PhD Admission Eligibility Criteria

IIT Madras has different sets of eligibility criteria for different streams.

PhD in Engineering:
Applicants need to have Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology with a valid GATE score or UGC-JRF/NET/CSIRJRF/NBHM/INSPIRE qualification in Engineering/Technology.
Also, candidates who have qualified for the award of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 score (7.5 for OBC-NCL and 7.0 for SC/ST/PwD) or with a valid GATE score will be considered for direct admission to Ph.D. programme in various Engineering and Science departments.

PhD in Sciences:
Candidates should have Master’s degree in Sciences with a valid GATE score or UGC-JRF/NET/CSIRJRF/NBHM/INSPIRE qualification in Sciences. In addition to this, applicants of PhD in Sciences should have 8.0 CGPA in M.Sc. in Science Departments for direct admission in Ph.D programme in Sciences in IIT Madras with interview at departmental level.

PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences:
Candidates seeking admission in PhD Humanities/Social Sciences must have Master’s degree/ dual degree qualification in Humanities/Social Sciences along with UGC – NET or JRF / CSIR-JRF / GATE score or any national level examination. Not just this, candidates are expected to present at least 3 years of experience in research/industry.

PhD in Management:
Aspirants must possess Master’s degree or PG Diploma/Associate ship in Management along with Bachelor’s degree in Management too. Also, candidates should have qualified in any of the national level examinations such as CAT/XAT /MAT /ATMA /GATE /UGC or CSIR / NET / JRF or Lectureship or equivalent or international level post graduate admission examination such as GMAT / GRE or equivalent.

• Click on ‘Research Programme’ in the ‘Study @ IITM’ drop down on the home page
• Click on ‘Apply Online’
• Create a login
• Fill the IITM PhD application form 2022
• Pay the IITM application fees online
• Attach the scanned copies of required documents
• Submit the application before the last date of submission
• Keep a copy for future references

Every applicant will be charged with INR 200 as application fees. Female and SC/ST/PwD candidates will be given an exemption of INR100.

IIT Madras PhD Selection Procedure

Candidates applying for IIT Madras courses will be selected on the basis of scores obtained in the IIT Madras entrance exam and/or interview conducted by the institute.
