Orientation Programme at Jamia Millia Islamia University

Jamia Millia Islamia University organized an orientation programme on 9^th September 2015 at the Jamia Sports Complex. The event was conducted by the Dean Student Welfare (DSW).

New as well as old students along with the faculty members and the dignitaries of the college were the part of the orientation programme. In his address, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Talat Ahmed firstly welcomed the new batch of students and congratulated them for having been chosen as one of the 6500 students out of over 1.5 lakhs applicants from all over.

Further, he introduced the students to some of the provisions that the college provides such as Zakir Hussain Library with over 6 lakhs books and a seating arrangement for around 1300 students and a reading hall. He also told the students about the WiFi enabled campus and digital resource centers that may prove to be extremely helpful to the students.

Prof. Ahmed enlightened the students about the availability of Centre of Career Counseling, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, different types of clubs such as Business Club, Drama Club, Literacy Club, Entrepreneurship Club and social platforms such as National Service Scheme (NSS) sponsored by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

He also motivated the students to perform duties like trying to excel in studies, developing good habits,
improving their personality, along with participating in cultural activities that would help them for the good. Some important schemes for meritorious students with an opportunity to go abroad for Research and Fellowship with the support of Saudi Arab were also introduced to the students.

Jamia was successful in producing 19 Civil Service Officers this year. He also released a Hand Book of Jamia which the students could collect from their respective departments.
