Online Learning Takes a Leap by 50 Percent in India!

Thanks to digital India, online learning has gown by 50 percent in India this year with technology and English as the most sought after courses taken up by students.

According to Coursera, a provider of online courses, out of the ten most popular courses, technology constituted 70 percent, followed by English for career advancement. Coursera has 1.8 million learners from India, out of 23 million registered learners globally, making it the second largest base of online learners after the US.

As compared to last year, Coursera has seen a big leap by 50 percent in India’s learner base especially among technology learners. In few years to come, online courses will gain momentum and will have a greater credibility than now. With time, it will become extremely common and will be considered for job roles that need specific skills.

Similarly, there are MOOCs that provide various programmes to the learners giving them wide avenues to learn and develop their skills. These MOOCs might still not have much credibility in India, but with these numbers, we can surely see a new change in the education system.

The Imperial College Business School, which is a part of Imperial College, London is offering various massive online and open courses (MOOCs) under the title ‘Essentials for MBA Success’. This is a four-part series covering data analysis, finance, mathematics and accounting.

These courses are accessible to students enrolled in MBA programmes or those who are planning to do this programme from a B-School. Each course offers a tailored learning plan that learners need to focus on, to prepare them for the corporate world.
