The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will no longer publish the popular sample papers for classes XI and XII.
The decision has been taken on the grounds that the number of students scoring high marks has increased significantly over the last few years and that the sample papers have played a major role in this trend.
Taking the sample papers is a popular revision technique for students across boards. However, CBSE feels that students have started to identify particular areas of the syllabus from past year papers, reports a leading daily.
According to the board, sample papers restrict students’ studies while helping them score high marks without really knowing the complete syllabus.
In the last meeting of the governing body of the board, it was decided that the sample papers will no longer be published.
The board feels that the students will go through detailed studies instead of selective mode in the absence of sample papers.
CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi says students are increasingly getting selective in their studies due to the sample papers and it’s not a healthy academic practice.
He says that students need to study in a comprehensive manner and, therefore, the sample papers will not be available hence forth.
