There are to be no changes in Delhi University’s existing provision of not more than 5% sports and ECA (extra co-curricular) quota (subject-wise) for the four-year undergraduate programme.

Candidates have to apply to individual colleges for a seat. A sports admission committee will oversee the process in each college.

Students who have represented the country in competitions like Olympic Games by IOC, World Championships under International Sports Federations (IOA and/or Minnesota Youth Athletic Services [MYAS] recognized/ affiliated games), Asian Games by Olympic Council of Asia, Asian Championships organized by the international federations of the concerned games (recognized/ affiliated by MYAS or IOA), Commonwealth Games, SAF Games and Afro Asian Games, Paralympic Games (affiliated by IOC or MYAS) will get direct admission without trials under ‘super category’. A student’s certificates and performance in trials will carry 50 marks each.

This year, chess players, shooters and archers will have to undertake only one of the three fitness tests - 50 metre dash, standing broad jump or 1,000 metre race/walk to qualify for trials. All other sportsmen will have to take two fitness tests to go through the process of admission under sports quota. To ensure transparency, DU has also decided to videograph them.

“A candidate who qualifies in the fitness test in a college will be issued a certificate by the college concerned in a particular format. This certificate will be accepted by other colleges also,” a DU official said.

Candidates seeking admission under ECA category shall register in the respective colleges. Trials will be held at two levels - preliminary and final. “As per the university guidelines, 75% weightage will be given to trials and 25% to certificates. However, they will get a relaxation of only up to 15% in cut-offs if they are selected by a college,” says Suchitra Gupta, deputy dean, cultural affairs. Students must submit evidence of having participated in the concerned activity during the last three years.

The trials for admission under ECA category shall be conducted by the ECA admission committee. The committee will be nominated by staff council of the college. At least two experts shall be invited from outside in the selection process.

The experts may be drawn from institutes like National School of Drama, Sri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, Faculty of Music & Fine Arts, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, College of Art, Sangeet Natak Academy, Sahitya Kala Parishad, All India Radio/Doordarshan (‘A’ Grade Artists) and experts from university fraternity in areas of their expertise.
