No additional eligibility criteria for admission in DU from the session 2014-15

Delhi University scrapped off the additional eligibility criteria, imposed by the colleges, for admission, On Wednesday 4^th May, DU announced that all the colleges would follow a uniform additional criteria for the enrolment of students from June 24.

The joint Dean of Students’ Welfare and Media Coordinator, DU, Malay Neerav saidthat the colleges would not put any additional eligibility criteria in the cut-off list. The colleges will only follow the uniform eligibility criteria notified by the university.

Many students have been admitted in the Economics Programs without any background in Mathematics, whereas some colleges preferred students with strong mathematical base.For this, they had setup their own eligibility criteria in Mathematics as high as 60%. From this year onward, any student applying for the Honours course in Economics will have to cover the minimum qualifying marks in Mathematics set by the university. This has been the case for Honours courses in Mathematics, Statistics and Non-Bio Science courses. This is applicable to all the colleges offering Economics or the above mentioned courses,” said Neerav.

According to J M Khurana, Dean, DSW, candidates who wish to opt for any Honours degree in the subject they have not studied in their 10+2, will have to face a 2% drop in their best-of-four aggregate. He also mentioned, if a student from Science background applying for Commerce, will need 2% higher aggregate in their best of four compared with students with a Commerce background in Class XII.

Those candidates applying for the Honours degree in language, must have studied that particular language in their 10 + 2 level. The candidates who have studied “functional” rather than “elective” or “core” level in 10 +2 will face a drawback, whereas who chose the elective will get a benefit of 2% in the aggregate best four.
