‘NMAT to Cross the Border, Likely to Become GMAT's Companion'

The NMAT by GMAC exam testing tool for MBA can be taken offshore to Africa and may, over the years, become a companion to the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) exam that admits students to business schools across the world, said Sangeet Chowfla, president and CEO of Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).

GMAC, which conducts the GMAT, had in March made its first acquisition of a test asset in the world by acquiring the ownership of NMAT, conducted from the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies.

"We are discussing it with the African Association of Business Schools. If finalised, African students can use this test tool for admission to business schools. They could take NMAT and apply to Indian business schools also. It is a global world and creating global integration is a necessity," he said.

"This is our strategy and we see this as a perfect execution of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India plan. We have invested in India, manufactured in India, added value to the domestic market, and now we propose to export it to other emerging markets," he added.

At present, 12 business schools admit students through NMAT.

Chowfla also pointed out the challenges faced by management education in India. "Business schools need to have more diversity since the student population is largely dominated by males and engineers. Also, students have to take five tests on an average for admissions to various business institutes, which is stressful," he said.
