The growth of various sectors in today’s world has created a need for newer and specific types of job in the market. With the increasing demand for customized skills and talents to aid these job categories, various colleges and universities have introduced specific courses that fit those criteria.
Beginning with July 2013 commencement of classes, students will see newer courses in Social Science, Business Management and Animation according to the trends. The pioneer for this step can be attributed to Delhi University’s Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).
As per reports, about 26 subjects are set to be launched, which will increase the number of courses to 54! The most popular course that is to get a facelift in 2013 is the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), a course that continues to be popular amongst students. Opting for MBA as a postgraduate option also seems to have lead to the increase in takers for BMS. The Commerce field will indeed get a big boost, once this course is implemented.
One of the oldest universities in India, Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI) may also make some changes in its course structure, especially for Master’s in Development Communic ation, Master’s in Visual Effects & Animation. In the past, these courses have been offered in the capacity of a Diploma course; this change will launch these courses into a full-fledged degree course.
Distance learning programmes also seem to be joining the bandwagon of new subjects and courses. And why shouldn't it be? A considerable percentage of India's education is imparted through distance education mode. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched new and multiple programmes in Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management, Computers and Tourism, etc.
In addition, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) and O.P. Jindal Global University at Sonepat (Haryana) have introduced reforms that have led to the 2 year LLM programmes to be converted to one year course. Also, Diploma Courses on Plantation Management and Agriculture, Food Science and Technology have also been introduced by some universities.
