First National Social Science Researchers’ Colloquium 2015 on Researching the Contemporary India is being organized by Developing Countries Research Centre (DCRC) University of Delhi. The workshop is scheduled to take place between March 26-27, 2015.
Researching in contemporary India in the realm of social sciences today is in predicament. Relevant interdisciplinary methodologies are still being searched upon and their acceptance is questionable, more so in the digital framework in social sciences. Similar to the 1960s when a variety of new theoretical paradigms emerged on one hand and the technologies like geographic information system surfaced.
Social Scientists then had put in questioning the prevailing quantitative, empiricist, and positivist conceptions of social theory and social research. Growing dissatisfaction with the dominant methodologies and theories produced by the mainstream promoted a search for alternative methodologies and conceptions of social theory and research.
The new paradigms of Phenomenology, Ethno-methodology, Structuralism, Marxism, Post Modernism, Feminism, and other Critical Theories offered new conceptions which claimed to be more adequate in characterizing contemporary society and in providing inspiration and guidance for transforming it. These theories have caused much ferment in the field of Social Theory and have inspired heated debates over the nature, methods, and goals of conducting research in Social Sciences.
To debate the new direction of Social Science Research in various academic disciplines, the workshop on National Social Science Researchers’ Colloquium is being organized. It is organized to encourage young researchers and young faculty to develop scholarly work related to the contemporary needs of the Indian society amidst the new digital capabilities.
