Department of Horticulture, Sam Hibginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences, Allahabad will organize a national level seminar on November 29-30, 2013. Seminar will be on “protected cultivation of horticultural crops and value addition”.
Protected cultivation, particularly of Horticultural crops, provides unique opportunities for assured, climate-resilient and enhanced production of quality products. The technology will be in greater demand as India transforms rapidly both socio-economically and environmentally.
This seminar is being organized to know the state-of-art with respect to protected cultivation technology and to share your rich experiences with the scientists, entrepreneurs, farmers, government officials, NGOs and others.
Objectives of the seminar are:
• Critical review of the status with respect to designing of infrastructure like greenhouse, net houses, shade net, nursery, drip- irrigation system for protected cultivation in different agro-climatic locations.
• Alternative scenario of crop improvement programmes for protected cultivation.
• Formulation of standardized production technologies under protected cultivation including IPM, INM grafting of vegetables seedling and the use of drip irrigation, fertigation and super absorbents for improving water and nutrient use efficiency.
• Income from small land holding could be increased several folds and self employment opportunity for educated youths on farm could be increased.
• To obtain sufficiency in fruits, vegetables and flowers by proper management of post harvest losses.
• Value addition offers best opportunity to tap marketing potential of horticultural crops, especially in liberalized and globalized trade and tariff scenario of the world

The registration fee (non-refundable) is to be remitted in advance, in cash or through demand draft in favour Registrar (SHIATS) payable at Allahabad on any nationalized bank of India. Accommodation for the participants may be arranged in the University Guest Houses on first come first serve basis. However, due to limited availability of the rooms, accommodation may also be arranged in the hotels at Allahabad city on prior intimation as per the existing tariff.
