The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Delhi has announced dates for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships (NMMS), which is a merit based scholarship for students of Class VIII and above. These tests were envisaged by the DTE to ensure that more and more students can pursue higher education and pursue careers of their choice.

About National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships (NMMS)

Central Government of India sponsors the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarships (NMMS), which is given out to students pursuing higher secondary education in India. NMMS is conducted for students studying in class VIII in government, government-aided or recognised private schools. Applications are invited to avail this scholarship scheme, which is available to talented students whose annual parental income is not more than Rs. 1.5 L. Every state and Union Territory of India has its respective quota which is divided on the basis of the population of students in the state. The NMMS scholarship is offered on a quarterly basis for a duration of 4 hours maximum, valued at Rs. 6000 per annum.

Eligibility criteria for NMMS

  • At least 55 % marks in VII for general category and 50% marks for reserved category in the previous session (of application) Parental income should not exceed Rs. 1, 50, 000 for all categories of students
  • Arrears can be claimed up till 12 months of expiry of the academic session
  • If a student discontinue studies within one month of admission, the scholarship will be revoked
  • In case a student misses an examination due to serious illness, a proper medical certificate must be provided to the head of the institution from a registered medical practitioner
  • The scholarship will be discontinued in case of gap in education
  • A clear promotion from class VII to class IX is required to be eligible for the
  • The student must secure a minimum of 55% marks (relaxed by 5% for SC/ST) in the final examination of class IX and 60% in the final examination of class X

Note - The scholarship amount will be given to the students from selective SBI branches.

Once selected for the award/ scholarship, students will need to:

  • Study in approved courses
  • Maintain good conduct as certified by the head of college/institution and continue studies in government, local body or government-aided schools as a regular student
  • Not leave classes without proper leave application
  • Take up study on a full-time basis
  • Not take up any job

Application Procedure for NMMS 2013 – 2014

  • The NMMS application form can be downloaded from the official website
  • The last date for submission of NMMS form is August 31, enclosed with documents
  • Attested copy of caste/PH certificate must be attached with the application form at the time of submission 
  • Application Performa should be submitted in triplicate at the Science Branch by the Head of School (HOS) duly attested by the HOS on working days in between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Exam Pattern of NMMS 2013 – 2014

  • Students have to appear for the state level examination
  • Students will be adjudged on Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Aptitude Test.
  • Both tests will have 90 multiple choice questions which has to be completed in ninety minutes (each paper).
  • Questions will be from subjects in the syllabi of class VII and VIII comprising of social science, physics, chemistry and biology, mathematics and general knowledge.

  • Last date for submission of application forms: August 31, 2013
  • Date of examination: November 24, 2013
