Introduction
Post 1980’s, India is faced with a number of crises at social, political and economic fronts. The society is in continuous state of flux. Most of the Indian English novels of recent times written by migrant writers have chosen materials for their art from contemporary Indian socio-cultural situations. Contemporary writers are concentrating more on bringing the reality through their works. Interest of the novelists in the different aspects of growth, development and problems of society in pre-independence, post independence and history of the migrated Indians present a considerable variety of interest in the social reality that usually remains overlooked by historians. One can easily notice a remarkable change in contemporary discourses in the Indian English novel. Contemporary author or novelist has learnt to address him to the fundamental issues intrinsic to creative and critical activity in the Indian English situation. Political decisions, social activism and cultural changes have long lasting implications on the life and living of people, which have grabbed the fancy and serious observation of creative writes, where novelists have focused more on social history of migrants and Indian nationals. Now issues like multiculturalism, indigenization, the social and political agenda of criticism and the like are being treated with great importance in preference to a variety of relatively inconsequential issues. By and large, the Indian English novelists have attempted to face the reality around him with greater courage and responsibility. It is true that the limitations of a liberal bourgeois consciousness that define their work and the social conditions of alienation tend to deprive them of a comprehensive vision and commitment to change, yet their achievement in fictionalizing the reality of Indian life with intensity and genuineness, with philosophical insight and artistic ingenuity has to be acknowledged with without reservation.
