Paras, a student of B. Sc 3rd year in Guru Nanak National College has been selected for mountaineering expedition to Bhagirathi-2 mountain (6512 meters) in Uttarakhand. This camp was hosted by DG NCC, Delhi in the month of August 2022.
20 cadets across the country had reached the destination to participate in the camp. The lodging arrangement was done for them in YEP accommodation cell. The expedition leader Col. S.S Phogat did the opening ceremony of the camp on August 20, 2022 with a brief about the expedition in his speech. This was followed by a formal introduction of each cadet joined the camp.
A training camp was hosted between August 20 to 27, 2022, where they underwent physical training, equipment training, regular classes on safety in mountains, do’s and don’ts in the mountain, daily medical check-ups, tent pitching training etc.
The flag off ceremony of the expedition was hosted on August 26 by DG of NCC Lt.Gen A. Chakravarty with everyone greeting each other and exchanged best wishes for this expedition. The team started for the expedition from Delhi on August 28 and reached Harsil, Uttrakhand on 30th. They stayed for 6days there for acclimatization, training, and regular medical check up. They did track to Lama Takri, Mukhba village,7Taal and some other places.
On 6th September the team moved from Harsil to Gangotri and started tracking from Gangotri. They reached Bhojwas in the evening, same day. The next morning, they started tracking to the base camp. This path was full of rocks. They had to move over the crevasses, somewhere with the help of a rope. They reached their base camp at Nandanvan in the evening. The team pitched their tents. They did acclimatization and load carry for further camp.
The team did the summit on September 14, 2022 to Bhagirathi 2 mount Peak. On the return journey, they stayed in Harsil for 2 days. On 19th September, they headed towards Delhi and reached on September 20th.
DG NCC office hosted a 'flag in ceremony' on September 22, 2022 where the each expedition members got their certificates ADG 1 Maj.Gen.J.S Sandhu.
With this expedition, the students take home an ample of experiences, good memories and a chance to interact with different people from different states with diverse culture and language.
