MHCET Not Mandatory for All-India Quota Students

Not all the aspirants aiming for admissions to Maharashtra engineering colleges through the 15 percent all-India quota seats would need to appear for the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHCET). This regulation will be taken into consideration and will be brought into effect in the year 2022 admissions. In addition, aspirants who have taken JEE Main will be given more preference as compared to CET candidates from the next year.

This matter came up when in 201 all-India quota-engineering seats were filled through centralized admission procedure based on the CET scores. However, 38 percent seats remained empty and then later filled by admitting candidates considering their JEE Main scores. However, aspirants who were seeking admissions under the 15 percent all-India quota opposed this procedure.

MHCET 2022 is expected to be conducted on May 11, 2022. However, the official dates have not been announced yet. In 2022, approximately 38% engineering seats remained vacant in Maharashtra. The engineering admissions received a poor response in Gujarat as more than 45% of the seats were left unfilled.

A similar situation occurred in Andhra Pradesh too, where 40% of engineering seats left empty. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) should now grant permissions to new engineering colleges considering the abovementioned data.
