The innovative and ambitious project of Shri Ram Babu Tripathi from Department of Pharmacy, Institute of Bio Medical Education and Research, Mangalayatan University has received the approval from Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Entitled as project 'Design and Synthesis of Potent Analogues of Peroxisome Proliferator Gamma Receptor Agonist by Allosteric Modulation Studies' the project was submitted on 2013, to develop new pharmacological approaches to treat levodopa-induced dyskinesia in a pre-clinical model of Parkinson's Disease (PD).
The project will be based on advanced techniques of Computation, Applied Mathematics and Statistics to address biological challenges arising out of different methods used in treatment of PD so far. There are a number of challenges which are creating hurdles in effective treatment of PD. This Project will try to find out easy approaches to address these challenges.
According to Shri Tripathi, 'The project aims to carry out quantitative structure activity relationship, to design low molecular weight analogues using various lead optimization strategies and prepare library of synthesizable compounds, to carry out docking study of designed analogues to predict and study various absorption, distribution, metabolism, excertion and toxicity properties of designed molecule and Refinement of
Synthetic target'.
With total cost of Rs. 5.37 Lakh and duration of two years, the project will use sophisticated software programmed for severe diseases. It will reduce dependability on animals for experiment.
Brig. (Dr.) Surjit Pabla, Vice-Chancellor, Mangalayatan University congratulated Shri Tripathi and motivated other faculty members to prepare innovative research projects to address challenges of engineering, science and technology. 'The University has great pool of talented faculty members-45% of them are with their Ph.D. in major subjects. The University is focusing more on research and innovation through this talent pool and we are expecting more projects in future', he said.
