Enriching the Indian technical education scenario are Government Funded Technical Institutes, commonly referred to as GFTIs. Eighteen in number, each of these institutes is expected to contribute its bit towards the greater cause, which is to create a technically literate society and keep India progressive. One element central to these technical institutes is their status as participating entities of JEE Main. Accordingly, your All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Main will be crucial for enrollment goals. For starters, the AIR is an outcome of your performance in JEE Main and normalised score in the higher secondary exam. Constituted by The Central Seat Allocation Board, Joint Seat Allocation Authority handles the intake process of the Government Funded Technical Institutes, which is conducted in multiple rounds.

Despite similarities, each GFTI is unique with respect to several key factors, including the number and nature of programmes on offer, intake capacity and fee structure. As well, every institute in the arrangement has discretion over fee waiver schemes and exemption of tuition fees to SC, ST, and OBC candidates. When it comes to fees, some Government Funded Technical Institutes prefer charging per semester, while others charge annually. A majority of GFTIs incur Caution Money, which is retrievable at the end of the programme.

  • Eligibility Criteria for GFTIs:

Eligibility criteria for enrolments into Government Funded Technical Institutes’ programmes is common to that of IITs and NITs. For the joint seat allocation 2022, JoSAA has announced few essentialities, which are as follows:

  • Aspirants should have a valid JEE Main Paper 1 score.
  • For general category students, the minimum percentage requirement in all subjects is 45.
  • SC, ST, and OBC-NCL candidates with 40 percent score can also apply.
  • JoSAA calculates the aggregate score depending on the aspirant’s performance in five subjects, including Physics, Mathematics, a language, and any two of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, and technical vocational subject.
  • Documents Required:

Your GFTI enrollment goals will remain unaccomplished if you fail to put up a few essential documents at the joint seat allocation session. Furnishing a provisional seat allotment letter is a requisite for enrolments into Government Funded Technical Institutes. In addition, you need to produce JEE Main original admit card and score card issued by CBSE, a passport size photograph, higher secondary marks sheet, and Board Certificate. The photograph that you submit should be the same as affixed on the JEE Main application form. Additionally, the candidate needs to furnish photo ID proof issued by the school, state, or union government.

For determining the candidate’s name and date of birth, class 10 mark sheet is required. Students belonging to OBC-NLC, ST, and SC should carry the original copies of the relevant documents when appearing for joint seat allocation. Moreover, foreign nationals seeking admissions in Government Funded Technical Institutes need to produce a valid passport. It is mandatory for Persons with Disabilities to make available a certificate from a Medical Board constituted for this very purpose.
