Much to the relief of 741 third- year Bachelor of commerce (TYBCom) students, who appeared for the leaked Marketing and Human Resource Management paper on April 4, the Mumbai university has decided against holding a re-exam.
The students at two centres, Parmeshwaridevi Durgadutt Tibrewala College, Andheri, and Indira Gandhi College, Vikhroli, appeared f or t he paper that was leaked in a Kalyan college, in spite of repeated communication from the university about not giving out the paper.
"We recommended that there was no need for a re-exam as the number of students who wrote the paper was very few. Also, the police inquiry suggests that the leaked paper reached only some students," said a committee member.
The committee, while stating that the leaked paper was given out by the centres unintentionally, action should be taken against the college.
"After visiting both t he centres and speaking to principals, students and supervisors, along with checking call records, i t seems t hat there was some miscommunication and by the time the message was read, it was too late to make changes, which led to the students answering the paper," said the member.
The students will now be evaluated on the same paper that they appeared for. "The paper setters create three sets of the same difficulty level for each exam. Hence, all students have appeared for a similar paper and hence neither of the groups ( those who took the l eaked paper and those took the new set) is at a disadvantage," said the member.
The two centres have admitted their mistake by giving out the papers to students. The university will take a final call on the issue.
