Lakhs of students took the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) 2014, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Sunday.
The examination was paper-based and held offline. The online examination will be held on April 9, April 11 and April 12.
Candidates who qualify JEE Mains 2014 will be eligible to take admission in the undergraduate engineering courses offered by the NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes in the country.
The top 1.5 lakh students will be allowed to appear for the JEE (Advanced) exam, the gateway for entrance to the 16 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The rest will seek admission according to their merit in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), state engineering colleges and other centrally funded institutes. This would be the second year of JEE (Mains) exam, since a new system was brought into force in 2013.
The results of JEE (Main) 2014 will be declared on 3rd May, 2014.
