The department of Geography, Kirori Mal College celebrated its Annual Geography Fest-Geotime-’12 on 27th and 28th of February 2012.

The department of Geography in Kirori Mal College is regarded as one of the "Best departments for Geography in the whole of India with Asia’s best Faculty."

The annual Geography fest, Geotime was held to mark another successful year of the Geography Department. Geotime was made a huge success due to the hard work and co-operative efforts of the students of the Geography department and thanks to the sponsors, who showed up at the right timing. Geotime was publicised on a very large scale through the official website (http://geographykmc.in/), a promotional video on youtube and social networking sites, banners and thousands of posters which flooded the north and south campus of DU and all other universities in Delhi.

Geotime received a great footfall as large number of participants swarmed in for registering themselves for various events held in the two days of fest. Geotime was commenced with the lightening of the lamp and “saraswati vandana” followed by the inspiriting lecture delivered by our Chief-Guest, Mrs. Sushmita Sengupta from Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi on ‘Rain water harvesting techniques’.

Geotime had a lot many events for the students to participate including Debate, Quiz, Pictionary, Globe pointing, Poster making, Face painting, Draw a logo, Treasure Hunt and many other exciting games. The events, with the exciting prizes lured students from different colleges and Universities to come and be a part of Geotime.

The department’s annual magazine- “Geoline” was also released on the occasion by the Principal, Dr. Bhim Sen Singh and the Guest of Honour. Geoline encompassed articles on “Modern techniques of Geography” by various authors from various colleges and universities. It was a perfect end to the grand celebrations of Geotime-’12 on Tuesday. It witnessed a number of interesting events (Quiz alone had 53 teams to participate as the registration had to be forcefully stopped for the lack of space in the hall) and a number of ecstatic winners who bagged many exciting cash prizes and goodies. “I was waiting for Geotime”, stated one of the student of Kamla Nehru College. "We ensured that every programme added to the participants' excitement,'' said Purushottam Gupta, President of the Department of Geography.

An initiative for taking Geography into the mass, the organizers promised to add more events and more prizes next time, all for the participants who really made up to the event.
