The Education Minister of Kerala, Prof. C Raveendranath has directed the government will no longer sanction autonomous colleges in the private sector of the state. The declaration was made during inauguration of the celebration of Calicut University for achieving NAAC accreditation with ‘A’ grade.
He also declared that colleges in Kerala would be provided with full autonomy in respect to academic decisions. Elaborating his words, Raveendranath stated that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government will conclude the practice of sanctioning autonomous, fully autonomous, self-financing and private universities in the state of Kerala.
The minister also asked the universities to conduct more of socially relevant research activities. Addressing the audience, he stated that the private universities should shift their focus from just minting money and earning profits to research activities that hold value to the society.
As part of the ceremony, Raveendranath also inaugurated a new building for the women hostel. The ceremony was presided by the Vice Chancellor of Calicut University, K Mohammed Basheer while MLA P Abdul Hameed made the keynote address.
