Due to some ongoing issues faced by the students at Jamia Hamdard like allotment of hostels, fee hike etc. led them to come to the street for a strike. The strike got a spark when students held a protest demonstration shouting slogans in front of the vice chancellor’s office. On second day of the strike few students were also taken to the police station.
Students from the medicine, science and pharmacy faculty staged the demonstration together demanding reduction in fees and withdrawing of the order to vacate the hostels even before completion of the course on Monday.
According the source in the student community, authorities at the Jamia Hamdard University, a deemed university, have issued an order to vacate the Boy’s hostel latest by May 15. 2015. But the students apparently denied the notice as the syllabus would not be complete on this date.
Speaking to a reported daily a student pursuing BUMS last prof, who is just to start internship in Majeedia Hospital of the University, and is living in Al Biruny Hostel, said: “I have one year to complete my course and now we are served notice by the university authorities to vacate hostel till May 15.”
Adding to his comment, another student said: “This behaviour of university is absolutely not fair and beside, we are to face increased fees every year”.
The agitation kept on and initially students were assured by the Registrar to sort out the issue with consultation in VC Dr G N Qazi. But, as no positive response from the authorities was seen, the students went on a strike again on Monday and assured that it will continue till their demands are met.
