If you are planning to apply for admission to the two-year post-graduate programme in rural management offered by the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), then here’s something you need to know.
IRMA will use CAT scores for admission to its flagship course for the academic year 2014-16.
The institute awaits a verdict from the Supreme Court on conducting its own entrance test for admissions. If the institute gets a go-ahead from SC to conduct its own entrance test, then the scores of the both the tests will be combined to give admissions.
The change in the admission pattern has been introduced after the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) issued a directive last year, wherein it asked affiliated institutes to pick one of the five MBA entrance tests (CAT, CMAT, XAT, ATMA and GMAT) for admissions .
The AICTE order had been challenged by IRMA on the basis that being a rural management institute, it needed to assess candidates on a different set of parametre that other MBA exams did not necessarily meet.
A notification on IRMA’s official website says,” IRMA will use CAT 2013 scores for admission to 2014-16 Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PRM) and 2014 Fellow Programme in Rural Management (FPRM). IRMA is awaiting Supreme Court’s pending decision for conducting IRMA admission test for the ensuing academic year.”
