A good news for India as the Council of Scientific Industrial Research (CSIR) has been ranked 12th best government institution of the world. CSIR has improved its ranking after occupying the 14th rank for the three consecutive years.
Out of a total 746 institutions, France’s National Centre of Scientific Research grabbed the first position followed by Academy of Science, China. Besides this, the overall global ranking of CSIR also improved from 110 to 99th position this year.
The Delhi based institute is the largest research and development (R&D) organizations in India. Established in 1942, CSIR is an autonomous body registered under the Registration of Societies Act of 1860. It runs 39 field stations and 37 laboratories across the country.
DSIR research includes in the fields of aerospace engineering, ocean science, structural engineering metallurgy, life science and other areas. As per the data available in 2007, the institute developed 1376 technologies during the last decade of 20th century.
