Indian Institutes does not do well globally when it comes to higher education. Our institutes lag behind in the global rankings, which is a matter of concern and government has taken up the mantle to improve the same.
Focusing on how to boost the higher education scenario in India, President Pranab Mukerjee met 29 chairmen, board of directors and directors of Indian Institutes of technology (IITs) on 22nd August, 2014 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with HRD Minister Smriti Irani were also present.
As part of this conference, President Mukherjee who is also the Visitor of these institutes discussed the national framework required to improve the world ranking of Indian educational institutes. The president also emphasized on how the IIT heads can play a role in enabling north-eastern students to earn credit point by completing their programme from IITs, IISERs and other premiere institutes.
The premier also focused on giving extra push to research and innovation and measures to improve engagements of IITs with community and resource mobilization, use of technology in pedagogy and online learning along with steps to increase alumni participation in educational institutes.
