According to the latest details, Supreme Court has suspended the admission process of all the engineering courses through IIT-JEE till the next hearing. The next hearing is scheduled for the coming Monday, 10 June 2022.
The issue arised when IITs awarded a bonus mark to all candidates for a wrong question in the Joint entrance exam.
The Supreme Court stated that "the future of 33,000 students already admitted hangs in the balance" and further admission process will be resumed only after deciding whether this awarding of bonus marks was valid or not
The apex court has also hinted that it can follow the same verdict from 2005, when the same issue was raised. The situation was resolved by awarding bonus marks to only those candidates who have attempted the question.
IIT’s Counsel said, "It is not possible to reevaluate the answer sheets of around 2.5 lakh students and awarding bonus marks was the most practical solution."
