IISc, IIT-B Makes It to Top 100 World University Ranking List 2016

Shining all the way up, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) has yet again outshined other Indian institutes and made it to the top 100 subject-wise world university ranking for the year 2022-17.

The survey was conducted by Times Higher Education that ranked IISc at 71 and IIT Bombay at 82 in the subject category of computer science. This is, so far, the best ranking achieved by the country’s institutes in the subject-wise globally.

Interestingly, computer science has been added for the first time as a subject category under this survey. Business & economics category has also made a debut in the survey this year.

Student Content Editor of Times Higher Education, Carly Minsky said, “This new ranking goes to show India’s strength in the area of computer science and information technology.”

The top position in the field of Computer Science was, however, bagged by Swiss Federal Institute of Technology followed by California Institute of Technology, USA.

In other categories, the top spots were taken by Oxford University (UK) for pre-clinical & clinical subjects, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) for business & economics, Stanford University (USA) for social sciences and Harvard University (USA) for arts & humanities category.

This is the second achievement this year for the two premiere institutes as last month IISc Bangalore was ranked as the top Indian university under Times Higher Education Global University Ranking with IIT Bombay following suit. IISc has been placed in the ranking group of 201-250 while IIT Bombay falls under 351-400 ranking group.
