IIM Ahmedabad to Increase Seats, To Benefit More CAT 2016 Candidates

IIM Ahmedabad has successfully revamped its PGP, FABM and PGP-FABM programmes last year. Now, the institute is on its way to increase the seats for the PGP batch 2022-19. The proposal for the same is under the consideration of MHRD. Once the proposal gets the go; the move is to give more CAT 2022 aspirants a chance to the part of IIM Ahmedabad from the session starting next year onward.

The total number of students that IIM Ahmedabad can accommodate for PGP and PGP-FABM together is 440. Besides this, supernumerary seats has also been added from the academic year 2015-16 over and above the regular intake of the PGP. Not only is this but more space has also been offered to domestic admission aspirants to IIM Ahmedabad to ensure the foreign students do not devour on the seats for domestic students.

The move comes at a time when IITs and IIMs are struggling with issues like filling up the current seats. IITs are even reducing the bar to fill the vacant seats in the institutes. Currently, top institutes like IIMs, IITs and NITs are struggling with core issues like dismal student-teacher ratio, less number of PhD scholar, fewer foreign students etc.

However, MHRD is determined to increase the number of students from around 72,000 to one lakh by 2020. For this, a number of measures are being considered like JEE Main exam will be held in 9 courtiers of the world to pave the way for more foreign students to IITs. Besides this, JAB is to increase the female student enrolment in IITs, IIT council has approved non-resident students in IITs and there is PM’s research fellowship scheme for 1000 IITians.
